چکیده

This paper introduces (pronounce spades), a stochastic process algebra for discrete-event systems, that extends traditional process algebra with timed actions whose delay is governed by general (a.o. continuous) probability distributions. The operational semantics is defined in terms of stochastic automata, a model that uses clocks—like in timed automata—to symbolically represent randomly timed systems, cf. the accompanying paper [P.R. D’Argenio, J.-P. Katoen, A theory of stochastic systems. Part I: Stochastic automata. Inf. Comput. (2005), to appear]. We show that stochastic automata and are equally expressive, and prove that the operational semantics of a term up to -conversion of clocks, is unique (modulo symbolic bisimulation). (Open) probabilistic and structural bisimulation are proven to be congruences for , and are equipped with an equational theory. The equational theory is shown to be complete for structural bisimulation and allows to derive an expansion law. © 2005 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Stochastic extension of cellular manufacturing systems: a queuing-based analysis

Clustering parts and machines into part families and machine cells is a major decision in the design of cellular manufacturing systems which is defined as cell formation. This paper presents a non-linear mixed integer programming model to design cellular manufacturing systems which assumes that the arrival rate of parts into cells and machine service rate are stochastic parameters and descri...

Stochastic Analysis via a Probabilistic Process Algebra

We propose a probabilistic process algebra built on top of a fully parallel calculus. Being strongly inspired by LOTOS, our model allows for multi-party synchronization in process parallel composition. Anyway, departing from LOTOS, it has a non-interleaving, multiset, semantics: Independent actions are performed simultaneously, whereas synchronization is achieved by means of the minimal, implic...

Fuzzy Acts over Fuzzy Semigroups and Sheaves

lthough fuzzy set theory and  sheaf theory have been developed and studied independently,  Ulrich Hohle shows that a large part of fuzzy set  theory  is in fact a subfield of sheaf theory. Many authors have studied mathematical structures, in particular, algebraic structures, in both  categories of these generalized (multi)sets. Using Hohle's idea, we show that for a (universal) algebra $A$, th...

Information states in stochastic control and filtering: a Lie algebraic theoretic approach

The purpose of this paper is twofold: i) to introduce the sufficient statistic algebra which is responsible for propagating the sufficient statistics, or information state, in the optimal control of stochastic systems and ii) to apply certain Lie algebraic methods and gauge transformations, widely used in nonlinear control theory and quantum physics, to derive new results concerning finite-dime...
